Metaplanet Issues Zero-Interest Bonds Worth $13M to Acquire More Bitcoin

Tokyo-based Metaplanet has issued 2 billion yen (sekitar $13.3 juta) in zero-interest ordinary bonds to purchase additional Bitcoin. The bond proceeds will be used exclusively to buy more Bitcoin, as part of Metaplanet's efforts to make the cryptocurrency the centerpiece of its corporate strategy.

All the bonds will be allocated to EVO FUND and will carry no interest. The full redemption is scheduled for September 30, 2025, but early redemption is permitted under specific conditions. Metaplanet plans to use proceeds generated through exercising its existing stock acquisition rights to fund redemption.

This move is significant for Metaplanet, which has been transforming into a Bitcoin-aligned company. It has been acquiring BTC since April 2024 and currently holds 3,200 Bitcoin, worth around $260.8 juta. The company aims to build a 10,000 BTC reserve by the end of 2025.

Metaplanet believes that Bitcoin is a hedge against Japan's economic headwinds, including currency volatility and mounting national debt. By anchoring its balance sheet in BTC, the company is betting on long-term strength in decentralized assets rather than fiat stability.

The company has also added firepower to its advisory team by appointing Eric Trump, a known crypto advocate, as the first member of its newly formed Strategic Board of Advisors. Trump's inclusion is expected to accelerate Metaplanet's mission of driving Bitcoin adoption.
