Ethereum Fees Crash to 5-Year Low — Just $0.17 Per Transfer. Is Mass Adoption Next?
Ethereum's transaction fees have plunged to their lowest in half a decade, signaling a lull in network activity but creating ideal conditions for builders and early adopters.
Ethereum, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has reached a surprising and historical milestone, with its transaction fees crashing to their lowest level in five years, at $0.168 per transaction. This dramatic drop in fees, as reported by blockchain analytics firm Santiment, has largely been driven by a slump in network activity. Fewer users are interacting with Ethereum's network, particularly with decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and other smart contracts. The downturn in activity has resulted in less congestion and, consequently, lower competition for block space, leading to lower gas fees.
